Defence Sector ICT Conclave: Indian Telecom Sector Celebrated for Exporting Equipment to 70 Countries

The Indian Telecom Sector has achieved remarkable advancements in recent years, with Indian companies making significant strides in designing, manufacturing, and exporting telecom equipment to nearly 70 countries. This was highlighted by Ms. Madhu Arora, Member (Technology) of the Digital Communications Commission, Department of Telecom, during the Defence Sector ICT Conclave in New Delhi. The event saw the participation of 21 companies showcasing their products.

The Telecom Equipment and Services Export Promotion Council (TEPC) organized the conclave in collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, and Ministry of External Affairs.

Ms. Arora noted a 35% surge in India's telecom exports and emphasized that the country is now competing globally on quality. She highlighted that India has installed approximately 442,000 5G base stations, with nearly 80% of the equipment manufactured indigenously. This underscores India’s commitment to fostering innovation and manufacturing, establishing it as a global leader in delivering advanced telecom systems and customized solutions.

She further mentioned India's openness to technology collaborations to enhance self-reliance in technology development. Indian telecom products have significant potential to transform the defence sector by building cost-effective and resilient communication infrastructures.

Shri Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, emphasized the critical role of ICT in national defence, enabling real-time coordination, advanced data analysis, and decision-making. He pointed out that India's vibrant ICT sector is future-ready, with significant capabilities in satellite technologies and the convergence of ICT with artificial intelligence and unmanned systems, which are transforming defence operations.

Mr. Mazumdar also highlighted India's expertise in cybersecurity, crucial for national security. The ICT sector offers world-class cybersecurity solutions, including encryption technologies and threat detection systems.

Shri N G Subramaniam, Chairman of TEPC, praised India's capabilities in information and cyber security, noting the continuous efforts of cyber security experts to protect defence networks and sensitive information. He also highlighted the role of data analytics and artificial intelligence in empowering defence forces with predictive insights and actionable intelligence.

The event was attended by ambassadors, defence attachés, and heads of commerce wings from over 12 CIS and ASEAN countries, and concluded with a Vote of Thanks from Shri Arun Gupta, DG, TEPC.
