Illegal Cattle Transport Bust in Thane: Six Arrested

A case has been registered against six individuals for allegedly transporting cattle illegally in Maharashtra's Thane district, according to the police.

Authorities intercepted two tempos transporting buffaloes under cramped and inhumane conditions in Kalyan on Friday morning, an officer from the MFC police station confirmed.

Both drivers lacked permits and could not provide necessary medical certificates for the animals. An FIR has been registered under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, as well as the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1976, against six individuals, including drivers, vehicle owners, and purchasers of the cattle. The accused hail from Mumbai, Ahmednagar, and Uttar Pradesh. Further investigations are ongoing.
