A 35-year-old woman, Pallavi Sharma, was injured and remains unconscious after being allegedly shot by two motorcycle-borne assailants on Dwarka expressway, police reported on Saturday.

The incident occurred at approximately 9.20 pm on Friday near a petrol pump, while Sharma, a resident of the Riddhi-Siddhi Society in sector 102 and a beautician by profession, was on her scooty running errands.

According to the police, as Sharma approached the petrol pump, two individuals on a motorcycle came from behind and shot at her, leading her to fall from her scooty. The bullet struck her waist and exited through her stomach. The assailants promptly fled the scene. Some cab drivers who witnessed the event rushed Sharma to a nearby private hospital, where she remains unconscious. The motive behind the attack is still under investigation.

'We are examining the CCTV footage of the area and investigating all angles. We have got some crucial leads, and the accused will be arrested soon,' said Station House Officer (SHO) Yashveer Singh of Rajendra Park police station.

Sharma has been residing in the area for the last 13 years with her two sons, aged 12 and seven, post-separation from her husband in Chandigarh. Her father, Rajkumar Sharma, reached the hospital after being informed by the police. 'I have no information about any rivalry involving my daughter. We can only get more information once my daughter regains consciousness,' he stated. The police registered an FIR based on the father's complaint under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC, along with relevant sections of the Arms Act, at Rajendra Park police station.
