The Delhi High Court has ordered the jail superintendent to provide a comprehensive report on the medical condition of Hyderabad businessman Arun Ramchandra Pillai, currently in judicial custody in connection with the Delhi Excise scam.

A vacation bench instructed jail officials to detail the treatment being administered to Pillai, who is requesting interim bail for medical reasons.

'In the meantime, the latest medical report regarding the applicant (Pillai) and the treatment provided should be requisitioned from the relevant jail superintendent,' stated Justice Amit Sharma.

The court scheduled the next hearing for June 14 and mandated that the order be sent to the jail superintendent for execution.

Previously, the court had notified the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to file its response, now reported by the ED counsel but yet to be formally recorded in the case.

The court has urged the ED to verify and substantiate the medical records submitted by Pillai, who has been seeking an eight-week interim bail citing health issues, including severe back pain.

Pillai's petition mentioned that doctors from an Ayurvedic clinic in Kerala recommended a 21-day 'Panchakarma Therapy' and a subsequent 21-day bed rest.

Arrested by the ED on March 6, 2023, Pillai is accused of representing a cartel of liquor businessmen and politicians, known as the 'South Group,' during critical meetings for the 2021 excise policy setup.

The excise policy was revoked in 2022 following a CBI inquiry into alleged corruption and irregularities.

The ED additionally claims Pillai is closely associated with Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha and served as the mediation frontman for the South Group.
