The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday directed the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to examine whether CCTV cameras installed by the West Bengal Police in front of former BJP MP Arjun Singh's house are infringing on his privacy.

Arjun Singh, who recently lost his re-election bid for the Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat, alleged that the cameras violate his privacy. Justice Amrita Sinha has instructed the CISF to investigate and report back to the court by July 3.

The court's directive follows a report by the state police which stated that the cameras, some of which are 360-degree rotating types, were installed in 2021 for crime prevention and surveillance purposes.
