In a significant development, North Tripura authorities have arrested two individuals, including a police constable, with heroin valued at Rs 25 crore. The arrests were made following a tip-off, leading to the interception of a vehicle from Mizoram's Champhai district at Damcherra on Monday.

Upon searching the vehicle, officials discovered over 2 kg of heroin. Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty confirmed the arrest of Sahidul Rahaman, a 35-year-old Tripura Police constable, and Jasimuddin, a 36-year-old resident of Sepahijala district.

Chakraborty mentioned that the vehicle was en route to Sonamura in Sepahijala, marking this as the state's largest drug seizure in recent times. The Chief Minister, Manik Saha, lauded the police efforts in a Facebook post, reiterating the commitment to achieving 'NashaMuktaBharat' as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
