In a horrific incident on Tuesday afternoon, a gunman opened fire at a food court in downtown Atlanta, wounding three individuals before being shot by a police officer, authorities reported.

According to Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum, all four people who were shot at the Peachtree Center food court, including the suspect, are expected to survive their injuries.

During a news conference, Mayor Andre Dickens commended the prompt actions of the responding officer. 'Had he not been there, things could have gotten worse,' Dickens remarked, emphasizing the critical role police presence played.

Peachtree Center, known for its busy office towers and underground mall within blocks of several convention hotels, soon became a chaotic scene as crowds of people gathered nearby, confused and concerned about the unfolding situation.

Elizabeth Ingram, an employee at a nearby Chick-fil-A, recounted her terrifying experience hearing the shots. 'We relaxed for a minute and then we heard more shooting,' Ingram shared. 'So we got right back down. My heart was beating so fast.'
