The Karnataka police have engaged the Income Tax department to assist in the investigation of the Renukaswamy murder case, owing to the substantial financial elements involved in the crime.

Kannada film actor Darshan, along with 16 others, has been detained for the alleged abduction and brutal killing of Renukaswamy from Chitradurga on June 8.

According to the police, the group has expended approximately Rs 78 lakh in efforts to conceal their crime and destroy evidence.

A police officer noted, "There is a significant amount of money involved, and we are unsure of the total funds raised through illicit means to evade justice. Therefore, we have decided to bring the I-T department into the investigation."

The authorities have confiscated Rs 70.4 lakh from the actor, with an additional Rs 7.6 lakh still unaccounted for.

During the probe, Darshan's direct involvement surfaced, unraveling the entire case. In a revised testimony, Darshan confessed to acquiring Rs 40 lakh from his associate Mohan Raj to evade legal repercussions and for covering up the conspiracy and evidence destruction.
