Wanted Dacoit Injured in Assam Police Firing While Attempting Escape

Kenaram Basumatary, a wanted criminal, was injured in a police firing in Assam’s Kamrup district while attempting to escape custody. Basumatary, apprehended earlier for attempted robbery, sustained a leg injury and is stable. His name had previously surfaced in another police firing incident last year.

Kenaram Basumatary, a notorious dacoit with multiple cases against him, was injured in police firing while allegedly attempting to flee custody in Assam's Kamrup district, confirmed authorities on Sunday.

Basumatary, along with three accomplices, was intercepted by Boko police on Friday during an attempted ATM robbery. During a subsequent search operation in Guwahati, Basumatary reportedly tried to attack escorting officers, prompting them to open fire.

He sustained a leg injury and was taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, where he remains stable. Notably, Basumatary's name was involved in a police firing incident last year, which later revealed a case of mistaken identity involving another individual.
