India has formally requested Italy to take swift and decisive action against those responsible for the tragic death of Satnam Singh, a 31-year-old Indian worker. The incident occurred after Singh was left without medical assistance following a severe farm machinery accident that resulted in the loss of his arm.

Muktesh Pardeshi, Secretary for Consular, Passport, Visa, and Overseas Indian Affairs, conveyed India's deep concerns to Luigi Maria Vignali, Director General for Italian Citizens Abroad and Migration Policies. The Indian Embassy in Italy stated that it is in contact with Singh's family to provide consular assistance and arrange the transportation of his mortal remains.

During a session in the Italian Chamber ahead of the European Council meeting, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni described Singh's death as 'horrible and inhuman,' prompting all deputies to stand and applaud. Minister Tajani, addressing the Chamber, mentioned that visas had been requested for Singh's family.

Last week, Meloni condemned the 'inhuman acts' perpetrated against Singh, one of many Indian immigrants working in Italian agriculture. She expressed hope that those responsible would face severe punishment.

Singh's tragic death occurred in Latina when a strawberry wrapping machine severed his arm. His employer, Antonello Lovato, abandoned him and his wife by the roadside, leading to Singh's death due to excessive bleeding. Lovato has been charged with negligent manslaughter. Singh's widow, Soni, has received a special permit to stay in Italy legally.

Italy's Minister of Labour, Marina Calderone, also condemned the act as barbaric.
