Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday urged district Superintendents of Police to make weekly visits to Intermediate and degree colleges, aiming to make students more responsible citizens and to enhance their social awareness.
At an event focused on 'student volunteers policing by NSS volunteers in road safety, women safety, and the fight against drugs,' Reddy appealed to the DGP to coordinate with district SPs for this initiative.
Reddy highlighted the dwindling number of role models in politics but asserted that IAS and IPS officers still command respect in society. He expressed concern over the drug menace and advised schools to hire psychology experts to detect and address student behavioral issues related to drug abuse.
The Chief Minister noted the difficulty for police in monitoring residential areas and emphasized that NSS volunteers could significantly help by providing information to the police, thus aiding in the swift action against narcotic supply and consumption.
Reddy also mentioned the formation of the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau to combat the drug threat. He encouraged NSS volunteers to join this battle.
In his speech, Reddy announced the government's plans to promote sports by building a stadium in every assembly constituency. He reiterated the government's commitment by citing examples of support given to sportspersons like India pacer Mohammed Siraj and boxer Nikhat Zareen. He concluded by stressing the importance of promoting moral values.
