K Thiruvengadam, a primary suspect in the murder of Tamil Nadu BSP chief K Armstrong, was shot dead by police on Sunday when he tried to assault officers and escape custody, according to authorities.
Thiruvengadam attacked a policeman during an operation to recover concealed weapons in north Chennai. A police officer shot him, and he was later declared dead upon arrival at a hospital.
Thiruvengadam, in his thirties, was one of 11 people arrested in connection with Armstrong's murder, which had caused public outrage and allegations of declining law and order. The police and government had pledged to take strict actions against the culprits.
