The Karnataka Legislative Assembly has taken a significant step towards transparency by installing AI-enabled cameras equipped with facial recognition technology. These cameras will meticulously record the arrival and departure times of members, as well as the duration of their presence, ensuring better accountability.
The new system became operational today, with KGF Congress MLA Roopakala Shashidhar being the first to be documented. Speaker U T Khader highlighted that the initiative aims to recognize diligent legislators, as opposed to just those arriving before the quorum bells. This technological upgrade will help in maintaining precise attendance records, which will be forwarded to the Assembly Secretary's system daily.
In parallel, the Vidhana Soudha, Karnataka's legislative and secretariat hub, has undergone a major facelift. The renovation includes a new rosewood entrance door, replacing the previous iron gates. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated this first phase of the upgrade, highlighting the need to maintain the building's national and international respect. Further improvements are expected, with contributions from legislators being welcomed.
