The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has assumed control over the investigation into an alleged scam involving the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC), where family members of senior officials and politicians were purportedly appointed to key positions between 2020 and 2022, officials stated on Monday.
The CBI has filed an FIR against the then CGPSC chairperson Taman Singh Sonwani, Secretary J K Dhruv, and others for alleged nepotism, involving the inclusion of their ineligible relatives and acquaintances in the merit list to secure prestigious posts such as district collectors and Deputy SPs, according to official sources.
On Monday, the CBI conducted searches at the residential premises of Taman Singh Sonawani, Secretary Dhruv, and others in Raipur and Bhilai. Allegations state that Sonawani’s son Nitesh was appointed Deputy Collector, among other family members placed in key roles. Similarly, then Secretary Dhruv’s son Sumit reportedly secured a Deputy Collector post. The CBI claimed that sons, daughters, and relatives of other senior officers and politicians were listed among the 171 selected candidates.
