Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh has demanded that SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal appear before the Akal Takht within 15 days to provide a written explanation regarding accusations from rebel leaders. The leaders claim that Badal did not represent the sentiments of the panth, as stated in a statement issued after a marathon meeting of five Sikh high priests.
Additionally, a clarification has been requested from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) over allegations of spending Rs 90 lakh on advertisements, as highlighted by some Akali leaders. This follows incidents during the former SAD regime from 2007 to 2017, including the failure to punish those responsible for the 2015 sacrilege incidents and the controversial pardon of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in 2007.
Rebel Akali leaders had previously appeared before the jathedar on July 1, apologizing for mistakes committed during their tenure in power. They also handed an apology letter to the Akal Takht jathedar at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, seeking forgiveness for these actions.
