Three Hmar Militants Killed in Fierce Encounter with Assam Police

At least three suspected Hmar militants were neutralized, and multiple police officers sustained injuries during an intense early morning encounter in Assam’s Cachar district on Wednesday, officials have reported.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mentioned on X that the operation involved the seizure of two AK rifles, one other rifle, and a pistol. The skirmish involved militants from Assam and neighboring Manipur.
According to a senior official at the Assam Police Headquarters in Guwahati, the exact nature of the injuries sustained by the police personnel remains unverified, pending a detailed report from the Cachar district police.
Sources revealed that the militants were apprehended from East Dholai Ganganagar on Tuesday night. The arms were discovered in an autorickshaw transporting the militants. The police then led them to Bhaban Hills in search of additional rebels, where the prolonged gunfight ensued.
Three militants were confirmed dead, and three police officers incurred bullet injuries in the confrontation. All injured individuals are currently being treated at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The Cachar Superintendent of Police, Numal Mahatta, along with other senior officials, promptly arrived at the scene for further investigation.
