Police have arrested two drug peddlers from Navi Mumbai and seized mephedrone worth more than Rs 2 crore, an official said on Wednesday.
The arrest, made on Tuesday by the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Navi Mumbai police, involved two 21-year-old residents of Mahim in central Mumbai, Salauddin Allahuddin Shaikh and Fazal Jafar Khan. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ajaykumar Landge, ANC officials received specific information that the suspects were coming to Sector 6 in Navi Mumbai's Vashi area to sell mephedrone to customers. A trap was laid along the Sion-Panvel highway in Vashi village, resulting in the duo's apprehension.
During their search, ANC officials recovered mephedrone weighing 1.04 kilograms and valued at over Rs 2 crore. Police are now investigating the source of the banned drug and the intended buyers.
