Kejriwal's Courtroom Battle: Alleged 'Insurance Arrest' in Excise Policy Scam
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal claimed in Delhi High Court that his arrest by the CBI in the excise policy scam was an 'insurance arrest'. His senior counsel argued for bail, stating Kejriwal was not a terrorist and his detention was unjustified. The CBI opposed these pleas, calling the insurance arrest claim baseless.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday told the Delhi High Court that his arrest by the CBI in the alleged excise policy scam was an ''insurance arrest''.
In a hearing held by the high court on a court holiday, Kejriwal's senior counsel, Abhishek Singhvi, challenged the CBI's arrest and sought bail for the AAP leader, citing previous release orders in his favor.
Singhvi asserted Kejriwal was not a terrorist and argued the arrest was not lawful, entitling the chief minister to bail. However, CBI representative DP Singh opposed both pleas, dismissing the 'insurance arrest' claim as unjustified.
Kejriwal's arrest stems from a CBI investigation into alleged irregularities in the excise policy, which was scrapped in 2022. The policy's formulation and execution allegedly involved corruption and undue favours to licence holders, according to the CBI and ED.
