In a tragic incident in Punjab's Fazilka district, a man and his son were shot dead allegedly over a land dispute, as confirmed by police on Friday.
According to police, the fatal altercation occurred between two groups in Pakka village on Thursday evening, leading to the deaths of Avtar Singh, 55, and his son Harmeet Singh after they were shot on the spot.
The deceased's brother, Karaj Singh, revealed that Avtar had leased about eight acres of land in Pakka village, which was previously rented to Palwinder Singh. After losing the lease due to a dispute, Palwinder allegedly confronted Avtar and cut off water supply to their fields, further escalating the argument into violence.
Karaj Singh claimed that Palwinder, along with his accomplices, fired multiple shots at Avtar and Harmeet before fleeing the scene.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Jalalabad Achru Sharma confirmed that two weapons, including a .315 bore gun, were used in the fatal shooting. A thorough investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to apprehend the suspects.
