Two Afghan nationals have been implicated for allegedly securing Indian voter ID cards under false pretenses in Akola, Maharashtra, a police official announced on Saturday.
The individuals, Amjad Luang Khan (40) and Parveen Luang Khan (38), recently applied for a long-term visa extension. This prompted the Special Branch of the district police to scrutinize their documentation, according to the Ramdaspeth police station official.
''During the document verification process, we discovered Indian voter ID cards in possession of both individuals. They have been charged under the Foreigners Act and other relevant statutes for this alleged deceit. Investigations also revealed that they had been residing in India since 2018 despite their visa not being extended. An inquiry is in progress,'' stated station in charge Manoj Bahure.
