Rescue operations continued on Saturday in Shirur village, Karnataka, as officials worked to locate three missing people, including a lorry driver from Kerala, following a massive landslide earlier this week. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is expected to visit the site on Sunday to review the search efforts.

Since the incident on July 16, seven bodies have been recovered, police confirmed. Rescue teams are employing ground-penetrating radar and metal detectors in their efforts, though heavy rains are complicating the search.

''Rescue and search operations have resumed again today,'' Superintendent of Police (Karwar), Narayana M, told PTI. ''We are doing everything possible to trace those reported missing. All agencies are doing their best. Our entire administration is at the spot, helicopters were also arranged, and the Navy is coordinating the operation.''

Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries H D Kumaraswamy visited the landslide-hit area on Saturday and attributed the incident to “unscientific work” in the forest area and substandard workmanship. ''It is a very sorrowful incident that five members of a family who were making a living by selling tea have died,'' he said.

Vehicular traffic on National Highway 66 has been temporarily suspended following the landslide.
