The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed X Corp and Google Inc to take down defamatory social media posts against Anjali Birla, an officer of the Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS) and daughter of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

Justice Navin Chawla also issued an order restraining unidentified individuals from posting, circulating, or retweeting the defamatory content referenced by Anjali Birla in her defamation lawsuit.

Social media intermediaries have been given a 24-hour deadline to remove the offensive posts. In addition, should Anjali Birla become aware of any similar posts, she is to inform X Corp and Google immediately.

The High Court has also sent notices to X Corp, Google, the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and unknown parties, requiring a response within four weeks.

Anjali Birla's legal team argued that the defamatory posts falsely claimed she cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam on her first attempt due to her father's influence. They clarified that she was selected in the consolidated reserve list of 2019 and joined the Indian Railways as an IRPS officer.
