Elon Musk Connects Gaza Hospital to Internet Amid Conflict
Elon Musk's Starlink satellite internet service has been activated at a Gaza hospital with assistance from the UAE and Israel. This activation follows the Israeli government's five-month-old approval and aims to provide vital medical consultations. The service comes amid ongoing violence in Gaza, exacerbating healthcare challenges.
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has announced that his Starlink satellite internet service is now operational at a hospital in Gaza, which has faced widespread destruction due to ongoing conflict. The implementation was made possible through the collaboration of the United Arab Emirates and Israel.
The UAE's foreign minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, expressed gratitude to Musk for his support of the field hospital in Gaza, where many medical facilities have been demolished and medical supplies are in short supply. Musk confirmed the activation of Starlink in the Gaza hospital via a post on X.
This development comes five months after Israel approved the use of Starlink for the Rafah hospital, a crucial facility in a turbulent southern Gaza city. The advanced internet service aims to facilitate critical medical consultations via real-time video calling, according to a February statement from the UAE foreign ministry. The UAE, along with other regional players, has sought to bring stability to the Middle East through normalization deals with Israel. The conflict, however, remains intense, with significant loss of life on both sides.
