Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh, Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), has urgently requested Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to facilitate the appointment of a Dalit mayor as mandated by the DMC Act.

In a letter, Singh emphasized the need for swift action to rectify delayed mayoral elections and requested the LG to ensure the constitution of the Sixth Delhi Finance Committee. He accused the MCD of operating 'unconstitutionally' for 18 months under current Mayor Shelly Oberoi, noting her prolonged tenure violates the DMC Act.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has responded by alleging that the BJP, via the LG, obstructed the mayoral elections despite AAP nominating Mahesh Khichi for the position.
