A 10-year-old boy was injured on Saturday when a pressure Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Naxals exploded in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, according to police reports.

Hidma Kawasi was grazing goats near Pidiya Murumpara village when he accidentally triggered an IED connection, resulting in serious hand and leg injuries. He is a resident of Mutvendi village.

He received preliminary treatment at the Mutvendi CRPF camp before being transferred to the Bijapur district hospital, authorities said.

Naxalites frequently plant IEDs along roads and under-construction areas, intending to target patrolling security personnel in the Bastar region's interior pockets. Civilian casualties often occur, with Bijapur being one of the most affected districts.

Police reports indicate that in the past three and a half months, five individuals have died in IED blasts at various locations in Bijapur district.
