In a disturbing incident at Kalyani Gandhi Memorial Hospital, a deputy magistrate and his brother were allegedly assaulted by security guards on Saturday. The altercation reportedly arose when the official and his sibling attempted to visit a patient after visiting hours, causing guards to intervene, resulting in physical confrontation.
The government official, Sushanta Kumar Bala, Deputy Magistrate and Deputy Collector of Bidhannagar subdivision, and his brother Prasanta Bala were the victims. Both claimed they were beaten despite revealing their identities. Sushanta Bala sustained a cut under his right eye, requiring stitches, and described the incident as shocking and humiliating.
Authorities at the hospital have stated that the security guards involved are contractual hires and ex-servicemen, not permanent staff, and were strict about not allowing visitors beyond scheduled times. The police have arrested two suspects and obtained video footage to aid their investigation.
