Maharashtra Police Crack Armed Dacoity Case, Arrest Five

Maharashtra's Palghar district police have arrested five members of a criminal gang involved in an armed dacoity in Khanivali village. The robbers used pepper spray, restrained occupants, and stole valuables worth Rs 2.31 lakh. The culprits were apprehended from various locations, and the stolen items were recovered.

Police in Maharashtra's Palghar district on Monday announced the resolution of an armed dacoity case with the arrest of five members of a notorious criminal gang.

District Superintendent of Police Balasaheb Patil disclosed that the dacoity occurred on the intervening night of July 12-13 in Khanivali village under the Wada taluka. Suspects forcibly entered a house, restrained the residents, and made away with valuables, including gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 2.31 lakh.

Among their methods, the gang used chilling tactics such as pepper spraying a male family member and tying up a woman, including binding her mouth with plaster and threatening her with a sickle. The robbers also stole Rs 20,000 from an ATM using a debit card found in the house.

Further investigations revealed the stolen jewelry was sold to a jeweler in Dombivli, Thane district. The police have identified and arrested Devanand Ramesh Tumbda (31), Santosh Krishna Tare (37), Akash Kaluram Santhe (28), Avinash Subash Pawar (25), and Umesh Bhairu Dhavre (30) from various locations, including Darashiv, Dombivli, Bhiwandi, and Wada.

Recovered from the gang were a stolen motorcycle and the weapons used in the crime, stated Patil.
