Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Monday declared a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the three victims who perished due to flooding in the basement of a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar. Saxena, visiting the site and engaging with protesting students, pledged action against Delhi Fire Services (DFS), police, and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials within 24 hours.

During his visit, Saxena faced 'go back' chants from angry students demanding justice. Despite the hostile reception, Saxena assured the students, stating, 'I am with you.' The Raj Niwas statement said that the LG interacted 'freely' with the students, who outlined demands including compensation, strict action against safety lapses, and a safety audit of coaching institute buildings.

The LG announced a Joint Task Force of MCD and DFS to survey all buildings in the area and seal illegal structures. He also promised measures to rationalize rents, address safety concerns, and ensure a comprehensive desilting of local drains. Saxena stated that these actions would be executed within two weeks, emphasizing zero tolerance for illegal operations in residential areas.
