France Endorses Moroccan Autonomy Plan for Western Sahara

France has officially endorsed the Western Sahara autonomy plan within Moroccan sovereignty as the sole framework for resolving the regional issue, President Emmanuel Macron announced in a letter on Tuesday.

'For France, autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the framework within which this issue must be resolved,' stated Macron in a letter to Morocco's King Mohammed VI, in honor of Morocco's national day.

'Our support for the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco in 2007 is clear and constant. For France, it now constitutes the only basis for achieving a just, lasting, and negotiated political solution in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions,' Macron declared.
