There was no immediate comment from Israeli authorities. A loud blast was heard, and a plume of smoke could be seen rising above the southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold, at approximately 7:40 p.m. (1640 GMT), as reported by a Reuters witness.

Lebanon's state-run National News Agency stated that the strike targeted the area surrounding Hezbollah's Shura Council in the Haret Hreik neighborhood. Beirut has been on high alert following the anticipated Israeli retaliation for a recent strike on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights that resulted in the deaths of a dozen youngsters.

Israel and the United States have blamed Hezbollah for the Golan Heights attack, but Hezbollah has denied any responsibility.
