Bombay High Court Extends Naresh Goyal's Bail for Medical Treatment
The Bombay High Court has extended by two months the interim bail on medical grounds for Naresh Goyal, founder of Jet Airways, who is accused of money laundering. Goyal, aged 75 and suffering from cancer and depression, requires further medical treatment. This is the second extension of his bail.
The Bombay High Court on Wednesday extended by two months the interim bail on medical grounds granted to Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal, who is accused in a money laundering case.
Justice N J Jamadar announced the extension, allowing the ailing 75-year-old businessman to undergo further medical treatment. This marks the second extension of Goyal's bail.
Originally granted bail on May 6, Goyal's interim release was initially extended on July 5 after his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in September 2023 for allegedly laundering Rs 538.62 crore. Counsel representing Goyal claimed he also deals with depression alongside cancer, necessitating further treatment.
Despite objections from the ED, which argued for hospital admission without bail, the court decided to extend Goyal's interim release. Meanwhile, Anita Goyal, his wife, passed away after being arrested and subsequently granted bail in November 2023 after the ED's charge sheet submission.
