Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh has reassured that there are no discrepancies in the operational safety of nuclear power plants in India. Responding to an unstarred question in Lok Sabha, Dr. Singh emphasized that these facilities are managed by highly trained personnel who are licensed by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), adhering to established procedures that are regularly reviewed and updated.

Dr. Singh also addressed concerns about the well-being of those living near nuclear power plants. He stated that extensive epidemiological surveys have been conducted to ensure the safety of surrounding populations. Health assessments are carried out by reputable local medical colleges for employees and their families living in nearby areas. The data is analyzed by Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, a leading cancer research institution. These studies have consistently shown that the operation of nuclear power plants does not adversely affect the health of nearby residents.

In addition to safety assurances, Dr. Singh highlighted the country's commitment to advancing its nuclear energy capabilities. He announced that nine nuclear power reactors, with a combined capacity of 7,300 MW, are currently under construction. Plans are also in place for twelve more reactors, reflecting a robust expansion strategy for the sector.

Dr. Singh further revealed that a new greenfield facility of the Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC) is being established at Rawatbhata, Kota, Rajasthan. This facility will include a PHWR Fuel Fabrication Facility (PFFF) and a Zircaloy Fabrication Facility (ZFF). With an investment of ₹4,256.20 crores, the plant will produce 500 tons per year of fuel tubes and is in the advanced stages of completion, located about 50 kilometers from Kota.

These developments underscore India's ongoing commitment to enhancing its nuclear energy infrastructure while maintaining stringent safety and health standards.
