Customs Seize Cigarette Sticks and Silver-Plated Gold Utensils

Customs officials at the airport seized one lakh cigarette sticks valued at Rs 18 lakh from three passengers. At Attari-Wagah check post, they recovered silver-plated gold utensils from a woman coming from Pakistan. Investigations are ongoing in both cases.

Customs officials at the local airport announced on Friday the seizure of one lakh cigarette sticks, worth Rs 18 lakh, from three passengers over the past two days. Separately, officials at the Attari-Wagah integrated check post recovered utensils with silver-plated gold from a returning female passenger arriving from Pakistan.

In the first incident, airport customs intercepted a passenger arriving from Singapore on Thursday, uncovering 55,200 cigarettes valued at Rs 9.38 lakh. On Friday, officials found 51,000 cigarette sticks worth Rs 8.67 lakh in the baggage of two passengers coming from Sharjah. Authorities have confirmed that further investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, at the Attari-Wagah land checkpoint, officials inspected the baggage of a woman returning from Pakistan to Noida. They discovered that the handles of the utensils she was carrying were made of gold and silver-plated. The utensils were confiscated under the Customs Act, 1962. Further inquiries are being conducted, officials added.
