Pakistan Government to Provide Financial Aid to Families of Missing Persons
Pakistan's government announced financial assistance to families of missing persons amid growing pressure to address forced disappearances. Families will receive Rs 5 million after eligibility is determined. The move follows a series of protests and the Cabinet's acknowledgment of the economic and legal challenges faced by affected families.
The Pakistan government has declared its decision to extend financial assistance to the families of missing persons, a move aimed at addressing the pressing issue of forced disappearances in the country.
During a press conference, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar revealed that the cabinet made this decision following the review of reports by previous committees on the matter. A special committee will be formed to identify families eligible for support, with each receiving Rs 5 million.
More than 2,000 cases have been identified for help, with priority given to 1,000 families whose relatives have been missing for over five years. The decision coincides with ongoing protests in Balochistan and efforts by the Islamabad High Court to expedite the recovery process.
