Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Monday reiterated his plea for statehood, expressing hope that the Centre would soon concede.
Concluding a two-day debate on the Lieutenant Governor's address, Rangasamy emphasized that the current Constitutional status as a union territory limited the elected government's powers. He noted, 'We face several hurdles in implementing decisions aimed at promoting the wellbeing of the people and the development of Puducherry.'
He reiterated that the unanimous stance of all legislators is that statehood would enable rapid decision-making and enhanced well-being. The CM suggested pushing for the state's case in Parliament, while opposition DMK members proposed sending a delegation to Delhi. The debate also covered progressive policies for water, infrastructure, and industrial development. However, opposition members protested and staged a walkout over the NDA government's policies.
