A 20-year chase for a notorious swindler ended in a Tamil Nadu village after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested V Chalapathi Rao, who had been living under the guise of a spiritual guru.

Rao, facing charges of siphoning off Rs 50 lakh through bank frauds, had evaded authorities by creating fake identities, including forging new Aadhaar cards and marrying twice, officials revealed. His arrest came just before he attempted to flee the country.

Registered by the CBI in 2002, Rao's case involved intricate fraud schemes and multiple escapes across the country, with his latest alias being a spiritual leader in Aurangabad. Rao's elaborate deceptions finally culminated in his capture in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, ending a prolonged cat-and-mouse game.
