A Tunisian court on Monday sentenced four potential presidential candidates to eight months in prison on charges of vote buying, sources told Reuters.

Among those sentenced are prominent politician Abdel Latif Mekki, activist Nizar Chaari, Judge Mourad Masmoudi, and candidate Adel Dou, according to political figures and lawyers.

In addition to their prison sentences, the court has also barred these individuals from running in the upcoming presidential election.
