Jharkhand HC Orders Crackdown on Illegal Immigrants

The Jharkhand High Court has directed the state to take immediate action against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants entering through Santhal Parganas. Key officials are to be involved, and inspections of identity documents suggested. The case will be heard again on August 22.

The Jharkhand High Court has mandated swift action by the state government to tackle the issue of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants entering Jharkhand through the Santhal Parganas region.

A division bench, led by Acting Chief Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad and Justice Arun Kumar Rai, emphasized the potential rise in illegal immigration due to Bangladesh's current unstable conditions. The bench directed the involvement of prominent officials, including the director of the intelligence bureau, the director general of the BSF, the chief election commissioner of India, and the director general of the Unique Identification Authority of India, asking them to respond to the matter.

The court also proposed sudden inspections of Aadhaar cards and voter identity cards to identify and deter illegal settlers. Cooperation between state and Union governments was deemed essential, with the next hearing set for August 22.
