Iraqi security forces have arrested five individuals linked to the recent attack on the Ain al-Asad airbase, Iraqi officials confirmed on Thursday. The assault, which took place on Monday, injured four U.S. servicemen and one U.S. contractor.

The apprehensions were reported by the Iraqi Security Media Cell, a governmental body tasked with the dissemination of security-related information. "Following comprehensive legal investigations and witness testimonies, five suspects involved in this unlawful activity have been detained," stated the Security Media Cell.

Monday's assault involved the firing of two Katyusha rockets, inflicting damage on the base. The Pentagon later updated the casualty count from seven to five, with three of the injured relocated to Germany's Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. The attack, attributed to Iran-backed militias, has heightened regional tensions as the Middle East braces for potential further violence.
