Jammu Police arrested a resident of Punjab on Friday, seizing heroin valued at Rs 33 crore, officials confirmed.

''Based on reliable intelligence that a person from Punjab was transporting a substantial consignment of heroin-like substance, a special operation was conducted by the Bus Stand Police Station team, leading to the suspect's arrest,'' Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Zone, Anand Jain, informed reporters.

According to Jain, the police recovered a bag containing 26 packets weighing about 33 kgs of heroin-like substance. In the international market, the heroin's value is estimated at Rs 33 crore, he noted.

A case has been registered at the Bus Stand Police Station. ''Initial investigations suggest the accused obtained the consignment from border regions and intended to transport it to Punjab. However, further probes are ongoing to unveil the complete network,'' Jain said.

Jain further emphasized that law enforcement has recently intensified actions against drug peddling and peddlers.

In various districts of the Jammu region, authorities have seized properties of drug peddlers valued between Rs 8 to 9 crore.
