Escalation in Gaza: Families Flee Amid Fierce Clashes
Israeli tanks returned to Khan Younis in southern Gaza, causing families to evacuate while Palestinian fighters continued their attacks. The chaos led to at least 35 Palestinian deaths in Israeli airstrikes. Thousands fled the area, as leaders from the U.S., Egypt, and Qatar arranged talks to halt the conflict.
Israeli tanks re-entered the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis on Friday, prompting mass evacuations along congested roadways. Palestinian fighters continued their attacks on Israeli troops from the ruins, resulting in at least 35 Palestinian deaths due to Israeli airstrikes, according to the Gaza health ministry.
Thousands of residents fled eastern Khan Younis, making their way slowly along crowded roads. Vehicles, donkey carts, and motorcycle rickshaws were laden with belongings as people sought refuge. With tensions high, U.S., Egypt, and Qatar leaders scheduled new talks for August 15 to attempt to halt the fighting.
Recent Israeli military actions returned to previously contested Gaza areas, despite warnings of potential Hamas regrouping. Leaflets dropped urged residents to evacuate the eastern part of Khan Younis, leading to packed buses and cars heading toward Al-Mawasi, a designated safe zone. However, even Al-Mawasi saw deadly airstrikes later on Friday.
