Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has made a fervent appeal to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar following the arrest of 35 fishermen from the state by the Sri Lankan Navy. In his letter, Stalin highlighted the severe distress and concern within the coastal communities.
On August 9, the Sri Lankan Navy apprehended the fishermen from Ramanathapuram district and seized their four motorized boats. Stalin, expressing deep anguish, pointed out the ongoing hardships faced by the fishermen's families and called for immediate diplomatic intervention.
Stalin underlined the psychological and financial toll on the affected families, urging the Indian government to prioritize their safety and security. He stressed that stronger measures are needed not only to ensure the fishermen's release but also to prevent such incidents from recurring in future.
