A school teacher in Tripura’s Gomati district has died after being assaulted by a mob for allegedly molesting a minor girl student, according to local police on Sunday.

Despite an FIR being lodged, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

The teacher, around 40 years old, was reportedly attacked after being accused of molesting the girl during a private tuition session in Udaipur town.

The local community severely beat him on Thursday, leading to fatal injuries.

“Following the assault, local citizens brought him to RK Pur police station on August 8th night, in the presence of his wife, and a molestation case was filed against him. Based on a doctor’s advice, the teacher spent the night in a local health centre,” Assistant Inspector General of Police (Law & Order) Ananta Das stated.

He was subsequently arrested and secured bail the following day from a local court.

After returning home, he fell ill and was admitted to GBP Hospital in Agartala, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.

An investigation into the case is ongoing, according to police officials.

Local MLA and Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy condemned the mob attack on the “reputed English teacher.”

“Allegations can be made against anyone, but taking the law into one’s hands is a criminal act. Chief Minister Manik Saha has been informed about this brutal incident. Legal action will be taken against those involved,” he informed reporters.
