Assam Police revealed on Sunday that Sunil Gogoi, a BJP leader and contractor, previously presumed dead, has been found alive through the detection of his 'electronic footprint.'

Declared an absconder for the alleged murder of his family's mason, Gogoi is now believed to be outside the state, with the CID actively collecting evidence about his presence.

A DNA report later confirmed that the charred and headless body found near Gogoi’s residence was not his but that of the mason, Jahangir Hosain. Police suspect financial motives behind the false death claim, possibly involving insurance fraud.
