Protesting Bangladesh police officers have agreed to end their strike following assurances from the interim government that most of their demands would be met, according to media reports on Monday.
The Bangladesh Police Subordinate Employees Association (BPSEA) had declared the strike on August 6, following nationwide clashes between police and students over a controversial quota system in jobs, leading to the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government.
In a meeting with the interim Home Affairs Adviser Brig Gen (retd) M Sakhawat Hussain, the representatives of the striking officers were assured that most demands on their 11-point list would be fulfilled, prompting them to announce the strike's withdrawal. The non-cadre police personnel are set to return to work from Monday, per bdnews24.com reports.
