On Tuesday, Dera Sacha Sauda chief and rape convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh walked out of the Sunaria jail in Haryana's Rohtak after being granted a 21-day furlough.

During his temporary release, Singh will reside at the Dera ashram in Barnawa, Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat. His release follows the disposal of a petition by the Punjab and Haryana High Court challenging his furlough.

The high court emphasized that Singh's request for temporary release should be judged without any bias. Singh, serving a 20-year sentence for rape and implicated in a journalist's murder, will also need to comply with specific conditions during his furlough.
