The father of a 23-year-old woman who died after falling from a building in Pune has approached the Bombay High Court, asking to be heard before any order is passed regarding a police probe into her death, which has been connected to a Maharashtra minister.
The woman fell from her house's balcony in February 2021 and was pronounced dead at the hospital. BJP leader Chitra Wagh had filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in 2021, alleging state Minister Sanjay Rathod's involvement in the death, a claim he has denied.
Rathod resigned after the incident but is currently a minister in the ruling Mahayuti government led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The father has filed an application in court, arguing that the PIL is politically motivated and causing his family distress. The court will hear the application on September 2.
