Ukraine's Advance in Kursk: Strategic Gains Amid Ongoing Battle
Ukraine’s top commander announced that Kyiv established a military commandant's office in Russia's occupied Kursk region. Kyiv's forces have advanced 35 km into the Kursk region since last week, capturing 82 settlements. Despite significant gains, Ukraine faces continued Russian military pressure along its eastern front near Pokrovsk.
Ukraine’s top military commander revealed on Thursday that Kyiv has set up a military commandant's office in the occupied section of Russia's Kursk region, stating that Ukrainian forces had advanced up to 1.5 kilometers in the last 24 hours.
Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi informed President Volodymyr Zelenskiy via video conference that Kyiv’s forces had pushed 35 kilometers into the Kursk region since initiating an incursion last week. He highlighted that the newly created military commandant's office will maintain order and fulfill local population needs.
Last week, Kyiv’s unexpected move into Russian territory caught Moscow off guard. Ukrainian forces captured 82 settlements and 1,150 square kilometers. Although the pace has slowed, they are still advancing. President Zelenskiy hinted at forthcoming offensive actions, asserting financial and welfare support for Ukrainian warriors engaged in such operations. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces are battling to hold their positions in the east, particularly near Pokrovsk.
