A jury decided Monday that the parents of Dimitrios Pagourtzis, accused of killing ten people in a 2018 school shooting near Houston, are not responsible for the tragedy.

The victims' lawsuit claimed that parents Antonios Pagourtzis and Rose Marie Kosmetatos neglected their son's mental health needs and failed to prevent him from accessing firearms. During the attack at Santa Fe High School, Dimitrios fatally shot eight students and two teachers.

Pagourtzis, charged with capital murder, has been declared incompetent for trial and remains in a state mental health facility. While lawsuits against parents following mass shootings are not uncommon, this case ruled in favor of the parents.
