The Supreme Court Women Lawyers Association (SCWLA) on Wednesday vehemently condemned the recent surge in violent crimes against women and young girls, demanding immediate and comprehensive reforms for their protection.

In a statement led by President Mahalakshmi Pavani, SCWLA called for a complete and effective ban on online pornography and obscenity on OTT platforms, as well as the installation of CCTV cameras in workplaces and institutions. The association expressed its shock and anguish over the horrific cases reported in various parts of India, involving victims from diverse backgrounds and ages.

The SCWLA stressed the urgency of gender sensitization committees in both public and private sectors, aligning with the Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace (POSH) guidelines. The association urged for a unified effort by government officials, legal authorities, and the public to address women's security issues seriously. Amid the nationwide protests following the alleged rape and killing of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, the Supreme Court on Tuesday established a 10-member National Task Force to ensure the safety of healthcare professionals.
